You may have noticed ‘Hyaluronic Acid’ skincare products popping up around everywhere and if you aren’t familiar with skincare ingredients, especially because it contains the word ‘acid’, it can actually sound a little scary. But fear not, hyaluronic acid is a magic little molecule that can restore youth to your skin.

Hyaluronic acid, put simply, is a type of molecule that is found in connective tissues throughout the body. It is naturally found in your skin and the magical thing about it is it can carry up to 1000 times it’s weight in water. As you age, the skin becomes dehydrated so when used in skincare it helps the skin retain moisture, leading to a younger and more youthful looking appearance. Aside from helping your skin retain moisture and plump out fine lines, it also helps repair the skin’s barrier (the outer layer of the skin) and it also has antioxidant properties which helps fight free radical damage. This all helps smooth, soften and reduce wrinkles.

Listed below are some fantastic hyaluronic acid products, with my favourites being the Aspect Dr Hydrating Mask and Paula’s Choice Resist Hyaluronic Acid Booster. When buying new skincare, simply check the ingredients. Always look for where they are on the list; as the further down the list, the less of the ingredient that is contained and say hello to hydrated skin.
