“The evo mission is to create innovative, salon-only products that are simple, luxurious and effective to use; to tell the truth; expose the frauds; keep the hair and beauty industry honest.”

Introducing evo. evo hair is an innovative, professional hair and beauty product manufacturer with individuality and integrity. Developed in Australia by Gavin von Gavin, evo is now available in New Zealand and I’m impressed! The no frills, clean packaging sets the tone well for the brand. You won’t find unnecessary, over-marketed ingredients, just ingredients that are active that also respect the environment.

The packaging is clean and gorgeous, all with quirky messages on them. Take the styling mousse, “Whip it good… everything old is new again… give this new millennium mousse a go and see how far you climb… spandex, big hair and head bands not included.” They have a luxurious feel and are all 100% recyclable.

The two stand outs in the evo hair range to me are the Miss Malleable Flexible Hairspray and the Mister Fantastic Blowout Spray. The hairspray doesn’t have an overpowering smell, has a strong yet flexible hold and brushes out to nothing when you need it to. The blow out spray provides necessary heat protection for styling, accelerates blow dry time and tames frizz – a brilliant multi-use product.

Further to the simplicity and straight-forwardness of the brand they even label out the ‘5 steps’ of basic hairstyle maintenance for you:

step 1. clean: shampooing, even more than getting up, is the essential start to daily hair maintenance (evo shampoos have a low foaming action and are gentle on hair and scalp).

step 2. condition: without conditioner, your hair is but a dandelion in the wind (evo conditioners seal the cuticle, moisturise and strengthen hair).

step 3. treat: this is first aid for your hair; without this step no realistic future can be achieved.

step 4. style: the all-important meat in the sandwich; everything leads up to this moment (intermix the products to give endless styling possibilities).

step 5. finish: it’s the garnish; the hold and shine required to leave the house (enhance the hold and shine of the style you’ve created).

But perhaps my favourite part of all about evo, is the ethics behind the brand. It is safe for the environment and the user, containing no sulphates, parabens, dea’s, tea’s or propylene glycol and all damaged evo stock is given to homeless shelters. These little things make a brand really stand out to me in an ever-growing and crowded market, so I think it is important to choose your beauty products responsibly. evo of course also does not test on animals.

In New Zealand you can find evo at Colleen, M11 Studio, Pony Professional and Zurri Hairdressing, among others. To learn more about the brand, visit their website here.
