Our wedding is in two and a half weeks – I can’t believe how quickly it has sprung up! I still feel like I have so much to do, yet I don’t have that much to do. I wonder if I will ever feel in control or “ready”. Getting married in Bali and planning a destination wedding has been an incredible process over the last few months. With all the planning that has gone in to the big and the little details, just as much attention has gone into my beauty routine.
I wanted to share with you my prep that I have been doing over the last few months. For me, it is not so much about looking my best (well, it is I suppose), but what really is most important to me is that I FEEL my best. I think looking my best then will come naturally after this and goes hand in hand. If you have followed me for a while, especially if you follow me on Instagram (my profile is here), you will know I’m a bit of a health freak. I truly believe that outer beauty starts with inner beauty. Inner and physical health, but also mental health, defines your outer beauty. So read on to see my inner and outer beauty routine and how I have been prepping for my wedding.
This might come as a surprise to some for me to include this as a part of my “beauty” routine, but for me this is at the centre of it. I practice 4 – 5 times a week and the mental and physical benefits are huge! Everyone knows stress can wreck havoc on your body and can cause you to get sick, rundown and can have a detrimental affect on your appearance. Practicing yoga balances your hormones and gets your lymphatic system going, creates energy and all around makes you feel amazing. When you feel this good, you also look good, right? It’s toned me up really well for my dress on the day too!

Dry Body Brushing
This is something I haven’t been as vigilante with but I am making sure I do it everyday now with two weeks to go. Your skin is your largest organ in your body and it is important to look after it and the benefits of dry body brushing are huge (read my article on 4 reasons why you should dry body brush here). Like yoga, it is great for eliminating toxins and getting your lymphatic drainage going. It will also ensure my skin is looking it’s best on the day, reduces the appearance of cellulite and gives you an all over glow.
This is something I have always done but it is even more important when you are prepping for something like a wedding! Drinking 8 glasses of water a day is incredibly important if you want your skin to look it’s best. It will ensure it is plump and glowing and when we fly to Bali I will step this up to about 12 glasses to combat the effects of flying. When I travel I love to drink 1 Above (read more on it here) so I stay fresh after a long-haul flight, I swear by it!
A good skincare routine that works for my skin
This is pretty much a given and seems silly to put in here because it is so obvious, but it truly is key. You can’t expect to have good skin if you start looking after it only a few weeks away from your wedding, it takes months of dedication. I haven’t changed my skincare routine in the lead up to the wedding, as I already have a solid routine, however I have been taking a little more time during it. Not rushing is important – taking a good minute to remove your makeup to ensure there is nothing left on your skin, another minute to cleanse your skin, using circular motions and ensuring to get all the spots. Pressing your serums and moisturiser into your skin rather than slapping it on will ensure it is absorbed optimally. I use a mixture of cosmeceuticals and over-the-counter products that I love and that I see results with. Read my latest update on my skincare routine here.

Carrying on from a good skincare routine, I have incorporated regular facial treatments into my prep. Since about March, every six weeks I have alternated between a Laser Genesis treatment and a Dermafrac treatment at Exquisite Laser Clinic in Newmarket. Dermafrac is a relatively new treatment that combines micro-needling with deep tissue infusion and I am absolutely obsessed! I chose to have the hydration infusion with mine and my skin has never felt so plump and hydrated, so if there was one facial or treatment that you were going to have before your wedding, I would 100% recommend this! Read more information on Dermafrac here. Something I have been careful to do is to not change anything or try anything new in the six weeks before my wedding. Not everything works for everyone and you don’t know how your skin will react and you can often breakout for a while after a treatment. Two weeks before my wedding I am having a hydrating facial at Loft Beauty boutique, but nothing invasive, just to ensure I have that extra glow.
Lastly, something I am pretty good with all year round, however it is something I have paid extra attention to over the last few months. Everyone knows nourishing your body is important for you to look and feel your best. I avoid processed foods and sugar as well as gluten and dairy as I have found this is what works for me. I eat foods rich in vitamins, minerals, probiotics and good fats and organic where possible. I also have a multi-vitamin everyday in case my body is missing anything (Good Green Stuff is my favourite, available here). I think being aware and knowing what you are putting in your body is the most important thing you can do and listen to how it responds. Last week I was sent ‘What Am I Supposed To Eat?’ by Dr Libby (purchase here) and I have just started reading it and am so impressed! If you are serious about getting your body into optimum health and don’t know where to start, in the book Dr Libby covers topics of what to eat, when, how much, why, food intolerances, eating for energy and diet and weight loss.
